Overview
SEARCH’s Clean Slate Community of Practice (CSCoP) is a national resource for justice practitioners working on criminal records relief initiatives. The site provides vetted access to a private forum, legislative summaries, and an interactive U.S. map tracking policy implementation across the country.
Challenge
Build a dedicated microsite that enables secure peer collaboration, tracks up-to-date legislative progress by state, and presents technical legal content in a clean, navigable way for a mixed audience of lawyers, administrators, and policymakers.
Solution
I designed and developed a fully custom WordPress site with tailored integrations and workflows:
- Built a custom login and registration system with admin approval using Ultimate Member
- Integrated a secure discussion forum using Asgaros Forum
- Developed an interactive U.S. map showing state-by-state legislation and campaigns
- Created a clean, responsive layout optimized for accessibility, clarity, and performance
- Structured content and styling for easy long-term maintenance and updates
Result
The site launched as a trusted hub for Clean Slate practitioners nationwide. In one documented example, the Virginia State Police leveraged the Community of Practice to build capacity and inform state policymakers as Virginia developed its own records relief framework, drawing on resources, examples from other states, and implementation strategies available through the site to provide legislators with timely, credible guidance. The Community of Practice has become a centralized source of authoritative information that reduces research time and accelerates policy development across the country.
